This is a tribute to Captain Donald Strother, for whom Strother Army Air Field, Winfield, Kansas, was named. Captain Strother was a pilot of a B-17 Heavy Bomber in the 7th Bombardment Group (H), Tenth Air Force. He was killed in action on February 13, 1942. He was the first soldier from Cowley County killed in World War II. The printed material is part of a plaque that was in memory of Strother.
