This rifle was presented by citizens of Caldwell, Kansas, on January 1st, 1883, to Henry N. Brown in appreciation for his services as their marshall. In May 1884, Brown used the rifle in an attempted bank robbery in Medicine Lodge and killed the bank's president in the process. Brown was captured and shot by a lynch mob.
