This is a photograph showing Mahlon Stubbs (right) and Rachel Stubbs (middle) with employees at the Kaw Agency in Indian Territory including Silas Moon and Lydia Thompson. Mahlon Stubbs was superintendent of the Kaw Agency, Indian Territory and helped construct the agency building. Stubbs came to Kansas, March 1, 1863, and located on the Kaw Indian Reserve near Council Grove, as a missionary, spending eleven years teaching as government farmer and agent. In June 1873, as agent for the tribe, he moved them to Indian Territory. In 1874, he left the agency but returned in 1878 when he received a call from the Kaw Indians to help start the school, which had run down. He remained with them for two years.
