A map drawn by Claude Beach showing creeks, the Union Pacific Railroad, and the town of McAllaster of Township 12 South, Range 37 West, McAllaster Township in Logan county. On a separate sheet Claude writes: "McAllester did not try to get the county seat in the election of 1887." This is one of several maps drawn by school children for a contest organized by Judge J. C. Ruppenthal of Russell, Kansas. The maps were to meet a "requirement of presenting historical data, together with excellence and accuracy of drawing."
