A map drawn by Myrtle Long of Lincoln, Kansas, showing creeks, schools, churches, rural post offices, rural stores and the Union Pacific Railroad as well as the "West Proposed Railroad" of Elkhorn Township, Township 12 South, Range 7 West (mistakenly described as T.12 S., R. 11.W.) in Lincoln County. On the back of the map Myrtle includes an essay on the "History of Lincoln Kansas" and talks about the murder of the Moffitt brothers in 1864 and the organization of the county in 1870. This is one of several maps drawn by school children for a contest organized by Judge J. C. Ruppenthal of Russell, Kansas. The maps were to meet a "requirement of presenting historical data, together with excellence and accuracy of drawing."
