These two photographs show views of Western University in Kansas City, Kansas. The top image is the statue of John Brown in front of Ward and Parks Hall. The bottom image is the Western University's football team the bulldogs. Established in 1865 the school was located in the city limits of the historical town of Quindaro along the south banks of the Missouri River in Wyandotte County, Kansas. For seventy-eight years the institution provided a four year education to African American students until it closed in 1943.
