U. S. Thirty-Fifth Division tree, Topeka, Kansas

This black and white photograph shows an elm tree being planted, near the Lincoln statue, on the Kansas Capitol grounds. The tree is to honor the soldiers who served with the U.S. Thirty-Fifth Infantry Division in World War I. The event coincided with the Thirty-Fifth's reunion held in the Topeka, Kansas. The twenty-first Governor of Kansas Henry J. Allen is standing near the tree on the far left side of the photograph.
