These six black and white photographs show a reception for Nancy Landon Kassebaum's induction to the United State Senate, (1978-1997), in Topeka, Kansas. Kassebaum was the first woman elected to the Senate in her own right rather than filling the vacancy previously held by a spouse. In the image of people at the head table, the second person from the left is Kassebaum's father Alfred M. Landon. The fourth and fifth persons from the left are Senator Bob Dole and the thirty-ninth Governor of Kansas Robert F. Bennett. She later married Howard Baker, a Senator from Tennessee.
