This inkwell was excavated at Fort Hays in Ellis County. The distinctive shape is commonly called igloo, domed, teapot, turtle, or monitor. The lettering on the side of the bottle reveals it to be "MONROE'S PATENT SCHOOL INK."

Knife

This knife was excavated in 1972 from a campsite in Johnson County. The site dates to what Archeologists call the Early Ceramic period. The knife may have been used for other purposes such as scraping or as a perform for a future tool. It is probably made from Flinthills chert.

Grasshopper Falls phase Early Ceramic Vessel

This reconstructed pottery vessel was found at the Booth Archeological site, a hamlet site in Jackson County, Kansas. The pot was reconstructed from many sherds, with the spaces filled in with plaster. The vessel is from the Grasshopper Falls Phase which occurred during the Early Ceramic Period. A cord-wrapped paddle was used to make the roughened surface treatment of this vessel.

Mosby-Mack baseball players, Topeka, Kansas

Three players from the Topeka Mosby-Macks are shown in this snapshot from 1945, pictured left to right: Paul Fink, Don Bliss, and Bud Fawl. The Mosby-Macks were an American Legion team representing Topeka's Capitol Post 1. The Macks won the state Legion title in 1945 by defeating a team from Wichita. It was the third straight state championship for the Capitol Post 1 team; its streak would eventually extend to six consecutive state titles. Digital reproduction of the photograph was accomplished through a joint project sponsored by the Kansas Historical Society and the Shawnee County Baseball Hall of Fame.

Tableware Maker's Marks

Tableware sherds found at the Canville Trading Post site, 14NO396, in Neosho County and donated to the Kansas Historical Society in 1994. The sherds show the maker's marks of potteries of J. & G. Meakins, Shedd & Turner, Thomas Hughes and Sons (also showing their Sitka pattern), and Liddle, Elliot & Son. One sherd marked with the word 'Eturia' may possibly be from the Wedgewood potteries. The name of one importer is also shown: Chauncey J. Filley.
