William Lloyd Lamb to family

Here are letters written by William (Bill) Lloyd Lamb to his family while he served in the Korean War. Lamb, a member of the United State Army, Company G, 180 Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, was a recipient of the Silver Star and Purple Heart. A newspaper article published in The Blue Rapids Times, September 18, 1952, provides details of the heroic act, which resulted in Lamb receiving the Silver Star and Purple Heart. Dart Point

This fragment of a dart point was recovered from an Native Indian campsite in Wilson County. One ear (barb) near the base of the dart may have broke during manufacture or during early usage. The tip broke off after hitting something hard enough to leave a curved edge, what Archeologists call an impact fracture.

Scallorn Arrow Point

This Scallorn arrow point was recovered from the surface of a camp workshop site (14TO313) along the Saline River in Trego County during the 1997 Kansas Anthropolgy Training Program. It was knapped from a chert called Smoky Hill Silicified Chalk or Smoky Hill Jasper and is identified by the two corner notches. Small arrow points like this were used to hunt large game such as deer or bison.

Fresno Arrow Points from the Hallman site

These two Fresno arrow points were recovered from the Hallman village site (14HP524) in Harper County during excavations in 1988. The site dates to the Bluff Creek complex during the Middle Ceramic period and it's people practiced a mixed economy of hunting, gathering, and some horticulture. Archeologists identify Fresno points as being unnotched with a triangular shape. Both of the points were heat-treated prior to their completion in order to make a better knappable chert.

Harrell Arrow Points from the Hallman site

These three Harrell arrow points were recovered from the Hallman village site (14HP524) in Harper County during excavations in 1988. The site dates to the Bluff Creek complex during the Middle Ceramic period and it's people practiced a mixed economy of hunting, gathering, and some horticulture. Archeologists identify Harrell points by their single side and base notches. The two pinkish arrow points were heat-treated prior to thier completion in order to make a better knappable chert.
