Chipped stone Axe

This chipped stone axe was recovered from an Indian campsite in Wilson County, Kansas that dates to the Early to Late Ceramic periods. The axe could have been hafted onto a handle and used for working wood. It is likely made of Florence chert from the Flint Hills.

Scraper

This scraper came from the surface of a Late Ceramic period camp site in Trego County. It was recovered during the 1997 Kansas Archeology Training Program and was knapped of a chert called Smoky Hill Silicified Chalk or Smoky Hill Jasper. It was likely hafted onto a handle and used to scrape hides. It would have required peeriodic resharpening.

This knife was recovered from a camp site in Wilson County, Kansas. It was made sometime during the Early to Middle Ceramic period, perhaps from Florence chert from the Flint Hills.

Scrapers

These two scrapers were recovered from the surface of a camp workshop site (14TO313) near the Saline River in Trego County during the 1997 Kansas Archeology Training Program. The scraper on the left is made of a chert called Smoky Hill Silicified Chalk, while the chert of the right scraper is unidentified. They would have likely been hafted on a handle and used to scrape hides. The tools would have required periodic resharpening.

This is a cabient card showing William H. McBride, who lived in Kirwin, Phillips County, Kansas. He was a member of the Kansas House of Representatives serving District 112. McBride was elected to serve in Special Session 1884, filling the vacancy caused by the resignation of John Bissell. McBride was reelected to the House in 1885 and 1886.
